FAQ

I am pregnant or just had a baby, is Pilates safe for me?
Yes. In fact, our qualified instructors will help improve your posture and alleviate any aches and pains during your pregnancy. Because of the emphasis on the deep core muscles it can also assist during labor by enhancing your endurance, strength and breathing techniques. Pilates is an excellent way to begin exercising after giving birth as well. We do require permission from your doctor before beginning a Pilates program during and after pregnancy.
I do not exercise regularly; will I be able to keep up?
Everyone whether an avid athlete or a not, begins from the same place in Pilates. There are key fundamentals that make the exercises effective. We start by teaching those fundamentals to each client and build from that solid foundation.
Can I start by taking Pilates Mat Classes?
Of course! All of the Equipment was originally developed by Joseph Pilates in order to assist the Mat Work. However, for those with significant injuries, you should start by taking a Private Pilates session.
How many times a week should I practice Pilates?
We recommend 2 to 3 sessions per week for best results. These can be mixed between Private Sessions, Equipment Classes and Mat Classes. Pilates is most effective when both Equipment and the Mat Work are practiced. After only a few weeks you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you feel and notice a difference in your body.
What should I wear?
You should wear whatever you will feel comfortable exercising in. We do ask that you don't wear excessively oversized clothing, which makes it difficult for the instructor to observe your body during your workout. You will never wear shoes during Pilates and socks are optional.
How many Private sessions do I need to take?
After your first Private session you will discuss with your instructor what the best approach will be for your body and your goals. Generally speaking, we require 5 Private sessions at Reform Pilates before you move into a group Equipment Class. However, we realize that each person is different and we may require a few more Privates or even a few less before entering the Equipment Class setting.
What is the right way to start a Pilates Program?
At Reform Pilates we recommend starting with a Private session. This will introduce you to the Pilates equipment and give you an idea of where your body is in terms of its strengths and weaknesses, as well as allow you to discuss your goals. Once you complete your first Private session you will be more comfortable with the fundamentals, philosophy and language of Pilates.
